Poor sleep and feeling run down: what your Watch can and cannot say

A short night can move heart metrics. Sleep is context in Early Signal, not proof you need to stop.

01Sleep changes the same signals strain can

Short sleep, a late night, or alcohol can move HRV and resting heart rate in the same direction people notice when they feel unwell. Temperature and breathing are weighted more heavily when they are present, because a heart-only shift is ambiguous.

02Context, not a lead

In the five-signal set, sleep explains the night. It does not by itself escalate you to Off from usual. If you logged a short night or a hard workout, generic patterns can show as Explained by context: status in the app, no push.

03What to do with a rough night

A wellness status is a heads-up to rest or ease a workout, not a reason to ignore how you feel. If you are unwell, seek care even when the app says Typical. If you simply slept badly and feel fine, treat a heart-signal shift as context.

Guide FAQ

01

Does bad sleep mean my immune system is down?

Early Signal does not measure immunity and will not say that. Research has explored links between sleep and feeling unwell; the app only shows whether your overnight pattern is unusual for you.
02

Will one short night trigger an alert?

A single noisy night should not. Off from usual looks for weighted agreement, and pushes are capped. Sleep alone is context.
