01What Recovery is for
WHOOP describes Recovery as how prepared your body is to take on strain, calculated after sleep. HRV, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and sleep are the inputs WHOOP highlights, compared with your own baseline rather than a universal good number. Green, yellow, and red are readiness buckets, not a disease label.
02Temperature and strain context
WHOOP says skin temperature and blood oxygen live in Health Monitor and can add context when you may feel run down, on hardware that supports them (WHOOP documents skin temperature on WHOOP 4.0 recovery data). That is a different product surface from the daily Recovery percentage. Early Signal puts sleeping wrist temperature and breathing in the lead when the Watch has them, and will not show a missing metric as in range.
03Watch versus band
WHOOP is its own band. Early Signal uses the Apple Watch you already wear and keeps scoring on the iPhone. It does not produce a 0–100 strain or recovery score, and it caps Off from usual notifications. Neither product should be read as a diagnosis.
| Early Signal | WHOOP | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | The Apple Watch you already wear. Scoring stays on the iPhone. | WHOOP band. Recovery does not come from Apple Health. |
| Signals | Sleeping wrist temperature and breathing lead when the Watch has them. HRV and resting heart rate support. Sleep is context. No 0–100 strain or recovery score. | Recovery uses overnight HRV, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and sleep versus your own baseline. Skin temperature and blood oxygen sit in Health Monitor on newer hardware, separate from the daily Recovery percentage. |
| Where it runs | On the iPhone. | From the WHOOP band. |
| Status | Typical, Slightly off, or Off from usual. Off from usual notifications are capped. | Daily 0–100 readiness score, shown as green, yellow, or red. |

How it compares
Early Signal and Oura Symptom Radar
Oura looks for strain from a ring. Early Signal looks for a personal pattern from the Watch you already wear.
Compare
Early Signal and Fitbit readiness
Fitbit’s readiness score is HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep. Skin temperature is a separate overnight metric.
Compare
Early Signal and Apple’s Vitals app
Both read overnight Watch metrics against your own range. They are different products with different jobs.
