# Early Signal and Oura Symptom Radar

Canonical: https://getearlysignal.app/en/alternatives/oura-symptom-radar

> Oura looks for strain from a ring. Early Signal looks for a personal pattern from the Watch you already wear.

## In short

Oura Symptom Radar looks for signs of strain from nighttime changes in temperature, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and inactive time. Oura shows no signs, minor signs, or major signs, and says it is not perfect. Early Signal uses an Apple Watch you already own, scores on the iPhone, and does not diagnose or treat disease. ## What Symptom Radar watches

Oura’s own help says Symptom Radar monitors average body temperature, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and inactive time, using sleep data. It asks for at least seven nights of sleep within 14 days. Minor or major signs come with a suggestion to focus on rest, and Rest Mode can pause activity goals. Oura also says a warning can appear when you feel fine, or you can feel unwell with no warning.

## Hardware and membership

Symptom Radar needs an Oura Ring and, as Oura documents it, an active membership. Early Signal needs an iPhone and an Apple Watch with overnight HRV. Wrist temperature on Early Signal needs Series 8 or later, or any Ultra. There is no second wearable.

## How the status differs

Oura’s three levels are no, minor, or major signs of strain, and Oura describes the feature as looking for early signs of strain. Early Signal’s in-app status is Typical, Slightly off, or Off from usual. It is a wellness tool: it does not diagnose or treat disease, and it is not medical advice. Scoring stays on device.

## Guide FAQ

### Is one more accurate?

This page does not say that. The sensors, wear location, and algorithms differ. Both makers describe limits. How you feel still matters more than either status.

### Can I use Early Signal without a ring?

Yes. It reads Apple Health from Apple Watch. It does not connect to Oura.
